Additionally, the practitioner may assess the patient's body temperature, pulse rate, and blood pressure to gain a better understanding of their current health status.

Questions (Prashna): In addition to evaluating the patient's physical health and using various diagnostic techniques, the Ayurveda specialist in Rishikesh, India, also conducts an in-depth consultation with the patient. During this discussion, the practitioner asks the patient about their symptoms, how long they have been experiencing discomfort, and how the disease or condition has progressed over time. At our Ayurvedic treatment in Rishikesh, our practitioners take a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment. Along with evaluating physical symptoms, they also consider the patient's mental health. This may entail asking about their emotional state and any stressors in their life that may be contributing to their condition. Ayurvedic Treatment for Body Detoxification

Ayurvedic body detoxification is a holistic process that aims to eliminate toxins from the body, thereby strengthening the immune system and promoting balance and overall well-being. The detoxification process involves three stages, which are as follows:

Purvakarma: The first stage of Ayurvedic detoxification is a preparatory step that helps the body eliminate toxins. This involves removing toxins from the stomach and tissues and directing them toward the alimentary canal.

Pradhanakarma: Ayurvedic detoxification is a highly personalized treatment that is tailored to the specific needs of each patient. Pradhanakarma is the main treatment phase of Panchakarma therapy. This phase involves the actual process of eliminating toxins from the body, which is achieved through various Ayurvedic procedures such as massage, herbal steam therapy, and nasal irrigation, among others. Pradhanakarma aims to reduce and mobilize toxins from deep within the body tissues and eliminate them from the body's channels. It is a crucial step in the Panchakarma therapy process and helps to purify and rejuvenate the body, mind, and spirit.

Paschatkarma: Post-treatment care is an essential aspect of Ayurvedic detoxification, as it helps to maintain the benefits achieved during the treatment phase. The care typically involves dietary recommendations and general guidelines to live a healthy life. The dietary recommendations are based on the patient's specific needs and may include foods that help in digestion, support the immune system, and provide nourishment to the body. General guidelines may include lifestyle modifications, such as getting regular exercise, managing stress, and getting enough rest. These practices can help the patient maintain a healthy balance and prevent the accumulation of toxins in the body. In addition to post-treatment care, regular follow-up consultations with our Ayurvedic practitioner in Rishikesh can also help to ensure long-term health and well-being.

The therapist also massages the patient's scalp with these oils to address mental health concerns, including depression and insomnia. Additionally, Snehana can involve immersing the body in an oil bath, which allows the patient to absorb the beneficial properties of the herbal oils. Snehana is a highly individualized therapy, and the specific oils and techniques used will depend on each patient's unique needs and constitution.

Swedana: Swedana is an Ayurvedic therapy that involves eliminating toxins by taking steam baths. During the steam bath, the warm vapor helps to open up the pores, allowing the body to release toxins through sweat. When combined with Snehana, the practice can be especially effective in flushing out toxins from the body. Swedana is believed to promote relaxation, reduce muscle tension, and improve circulation. This therapy is often used in conjunction with other Ayurvedic treatments to support overall health and well-being. The specific duration and frequency of Swedana will depend on the individual's health needs and constitution.

Through this holistic approach, Rasayana Chikitsa promotes overall health and wellness, both physically and mentally.

Karnapuran

It is highly effective in healing ear problems. It is considered more of a therapy than treatment and can considerably mitigate the effects of tinnitus while improving the hearing quality of patients. Patients seeking Karnapuran therapy undergo a head and neck massage before the therapy. The therapist pours herbal-infused oil or other medicated liquid into the patient's ears during the therapy.

This helps to soothe the ear canal, relieve inflammation and discomfort, and promote overall healing. Our doctors say Karnapuran therapy is a gentle and natural way to address ear problems and can offer significant relief for those suffering from tinnitus or other ear-related issues.

Hrid Vashti is helpful in the treatment of various cardiac ailments, such as cardiomyopathy, as well as respiratory diseases, like asthma. The therapist builds a reservoir made of black gram dough on the area over the heart. The therapist then pours warm, medicated oil into the reservoir and leaves it there for a period of 15-20 minutes. This therapy is known to strengthen the heart and contribute to relieving depression. It can also help to alleviate other heart-related issues, such as high blood pressure and chest pain.

Marma Massages

The term "Marma" is derived from Sanskrit and translates to "hidden" or "secret." In Ayurvedic medicine, Marma points are considered to be the junctures on the body where two or more types of tissues, known as dhatu, meet. These points are also considered to be the intersections of prana, the vital life force, and as such, they are considered to be vital points of the human body. Stimulating or applying pressure to these Marma points is believed to help balance the flow of energy throughout the body and promote overall wellness. The Marma points are thought to significantly impact an individual's physical, mental, and emotional health. In Ayurveda, Marma massage therapy is a crucial component as it is believed to help clear blocked energy and promote overall well-being.

The Marma points are connected to all three doshas - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, and stimulating them through massage can help balance and regulate the doshas. This is because Marma massage therapy has the power to calm or stimulate the doshas, depending on the individual's unique constitution and needs. By working on these vital points, a Marma massage can help release tension, promote relaxation, and stimulate the flow of prana throughout the body. This therapy can also help to alleviate pain, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve overall health.

Netra Tarpana

The name of this therapy comes from two Sanskrit words: Netra ("eye") and Tarpana ("nourishment"); hence it means "nourishment of the eye." Netra Tarpana relieves eye ailments, such as blurry vision, ocular cellulitis, glaucoma, conjunctivitis, and squinting eyes. Furthermore, it helps with the aggravation of Vata and Pitta-related illnesses, atrophy of the cranial nerves, and inflammation of the cornea, among others.

Netra Tarpana is similar to Hrid and Merudanda Vasthi. Our therapist puts a black gram dough around the patient's eyes and fills it with warm, clarified, or herbal-infused ghee. During the 15 to 20 minutes of the session, the patient must keep their eyes in movement. Then, the therapist takes care of keeping the ghee warm by replacing it constantly.

At Maa Yoga Ashram, we offer specialized therapies for patients suffering from a range of chronic ailments, such as obesity, heart problems, depression, blocked arteries, impotence, arthritis, and psychiatric issues. According to Ayurvedic principles, each person is unique, and their dietary requirements and practices should be customized accordingly. Moreover, good nutrition and proper digestion are considered essential for achieving and maintaining good health in Ayurveda. Therefore, both of these elements are emphasized in the Ayurvedic approach to treatment, recovery, and disease management.

Ayurvedic diet and nutrition have six primary "tastes" which form the basis for the Ayurveda practitioner's recommendations:

  • Sweet: promotes strength and nourishes all dhatus.
  • Sour: stimulates good digestion.
  • Salty: maintains water electrolyte-balance.
  • Pungent: improve digestion and nutrient absorption.
  • Bitter: stimulates all other tastes.
  • Astringent: aids in nutrient absorption.

Herbs and Herbal Medicine

Ayurvedic medicine is based on two fundamental theories: The Tridoshas and Herbal Energies. The latter classifies herbs based on their therapeutic and biochemical properties, as well as their energies, tastes, and the organs and channels affected. Each herb has therapeutic properties according to its energy and healing power.

As part of the Ayurvedic treatments, our Ayurveda practitioner determines the patient's diet and herbal remedies based on the properties or energy/quality of different herbs. These are determined based on the twenty attributes, which present themselves in ten pairs of opposites: slow/sharp, oily/dry, cold/hot, slimy/rough, dense/liquid, soft/hard, static/mobile, subtle/gross, cloudy/clear and heavy/light.

Herbs are further divided according to six tastes: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, and astringent. Everyone needs the six tastes in their daily diet; however, one of them usually predominates.

Finally, it is worth noting that prescribing Ayurvedic herbal remedies are a precise science. As such, it requires deep knowledge of plants and their effect on human physiology, biochemistry, and psychology. Consequently, these remedies must not be taken freely, nor should they be prescribed by anyone other than qualified practitioners.
