Additionally, the practitioner may assess the patient's body temperature, pulse rate, and blood pressure to gain a better understanding of their current health status.
Touch (Sparsha): After evaluating the patient's physical health, the Ayurveda practitioner proceeds to the next step, which involves using various techniques to assess the patient's health further. Questions (Prashna): In addition to evaluating the patient's physical health and using various diagnostic techniques, the Ayurveda specialist in Rishikesh, India, also conducts an in-depth consultation with the patient. During this discussion, the practitioner asks the patient about their symptoms, how long they have been experiencing discomfort, and how the disease or condition has progressed over time. This information helps the practitioner to gain a deeper understanding of the patient's current health status and identify any underlying causes of their symptoms.
At our Ayurvedic treatment in Rishikesh, our practitioners take a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment. Along with evaluating physical symptoms, they also consider the patient's mental health. This may entail asking about their emotional state and any stressors in their life that may be contributing to their condition. During Pizhichil, slightly heated medicated oil is poured onto the patient's body in a continuous stream, and four therapists massage the oil over the patient's body for 45 to 90 minutes per day. This treatment typically lasts for at least seven days and can help alleviate symptoms and promote overall wellness.
We offer Kativasthi, which is an Ayurvedic treatment that provides various health benefits, including reducing low back pain, lumbar spondylosis, and sciatica. This treatment is also effective in alleviating degenerative vertebral diseases, disc prolapse, and other related conditions.
The therapy involves pouring warm medicated oil over the lower back of the patient and holding the oil in place using an herbal paste boundary made of dough. The therapist typically administers Kativasthi for 30 to 45 minutes, and during this time, the patient can experience relief from pain and other symptoms associated with their condition.
Pinda Sweda (Kizhi)
This Ayurvedic treatment relieves pain and edema. It is recommended by our doctors when treating arthritis, spondylosis, and low backaches. Kizhi has also proven effective in healing sports injuries.
During Kizhi sessions, the therapist wraps herbal leaves or powders in small boluses and heats them with warm medicated oils. Afterward, they apply these small balls all over the body. Kizhi sessions last 45 minutes per day, and the entire treatment usually spans anywhere from 7 to 14 days.
In general, Shiro Vasthi is highly effective in the treatment of brain afflictions. It offers several health benefits and is also effective in addressing other conditions, such as facial Paralysis, migraines, speech difficulties, insomnia, nervous disorders, and loss of tactile sense. Additionally, Shiro Vasthi can alleviate Vata-related diseases, including severe headaches and dryness of nostrils, mouth, and throat.
Shiro Vasthi consists of pouring medicated, warmed herbal oil into a cap, which is fitted onto the head of the patient. The sessions last 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the patient's condition. Shiro Vasthi can help to promote overall wellness and alleviate various health issues.
Shiro Dhara is a highly effective Ayurvedic therapy that can be used to treat a variety of health conditions affecting the head and neck, as well as auto-immune diseases. This treatment has been found to be particularly useful in alleviating insomnia, impaired memory, spondylitis, paraplegia, and fatigue. In addition, our Shiro Dhara therapy at Arogyadham Treatment Center is beneficial in managing rheumatoid arthritis by reducing stiffness and improving joint mobility. The therapy also stimulates the nervous system and can help relieve the effects of allergic rhinitis and psoriasis.
During the treatment, a steady stream of warm medicated oil, medicated milk, medicated buttermilk, or other liquid for 45 minutes every day over the patient's forehead, which helps to calm the mind, reduce stress and anxiety, and promote overall relaxation. Shiro Dhara is a gentle and natural therapy that offers a wide range of benefits for both physical and mental well-being.
It is highly effective in healing ear problems. It is considered more of a therapy than treatment and can considerably mitigate the effects of tinnitus while improving the hearing quality of patients. Patients seeking Karnapuran therapy undergo a head and neck massage before the therapy. The therapist pours herbal-infused oil or other medicated liquid into the patient's ears during the therapy.
This helps to soothe the ear canal, relieve inflammation and discomfort, and promote overall healing. Our doctors say Karnapuran therapy is a gentle and natural way to address ear problems and can offer significant relief for those suffering from tinnitus or other ear-related issues.
Hrid Vashti is helpful in the treatment of various cardiac ailments, such as cardiomyopathy, as well as respiratory diseases, like asthma. The therapist builds a reservoir made of black gram dough on the area over the heart. The therapist then pours warm, medicated oil into the reservoir and leaves it there for a period of 15-20 minutes. This therapy is known to strengthen the heart and contribute to relieving depression. It can also help to alleviate other heart-related issues, such as high blood pressure and chest pain.
In addition, the warm oil used in the therapy helps to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote overall relaxation. Hrid Vasthi is a gentle and natural way to support heart health and can be a beneficial addition to any wellness regimen.
Merudanda Vasthi relieves the patient from acute back pain, cervical spondylosis, degenerative vertebral diseases, and disc prolapse. It is also beneficial in the treatment of back muscle fatigue, neck pain, and spinal disc herniation.
This Ayurvedic treatment is similar to Hrid Vasthi. The therapist builds a barrier on the spine region and pours medicated oil inside. Afterward, they remove the dam and the oil and proceed to perform an intensive massage. This activity focuses on the marma points along the spine region. The Merudanda Vasthi session can span 45 minutes to an hour and a half, during 3 to 14 days. Afterward, patients are generally advised to engage in yoga exercises (asanas).
The term "Marma" is derived from Sanskrit and translates to "hidden" or "secret." In Ayurvedic medicine, Marma points are considered to be the junctures on the body where two or more types of tissues, known as dhatu, meet. These points are also considered to be the intersections of prana, the vital life force, and as such, they are considered to be vital points of the human body. Stimulating or applying pressure to these Marma points is believed to help balance the flow of energy throughout the body and promote overall wellness. The Marma points are thought to significantly impact an individual's physical, mental, and emotional health. In Ayurveda, Marma massage therapy is a crucial component as it is believed to help clear blocked energy and promote overall well-being.
The Marma points are connected to all three doshas - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, and stimulating them through massage can help balance and regulate the doshas. This is because Marma massage therapy has the power to calm or stimulate the doshas, depending on the individual's unique constitution and needs. By working on these vital points, a Marma massage can help release tension, promote relaxation, and stimulate the flow of prana throughout the body. This therapy can also help to alleviate pain, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve overall health.
The name of this therapy comes from two Sanskrit words: Netra ("eye") and Tarpana ("nourishment"); hence it means "nourishment of the eye." Netra Tarpana relieves eye ailments, such as blurry vision, ocular cellulitis, glaucoma, conjunctivitis, and squinting eyes. Furthermore, it helps with the aggravation of Vata and Pitta-related illnesses, atrophy of the cranial nerves, and inflammation of the cornea, among others.
Netra Tarpana is similar to Hrid and Merudanda Vasthi. Our therapist puts a black gram dough around the patient's eyes and fills it with warm, clarified, or herbal-infused ghee. During the 15 to 20 minutes of the session, the patient must keep their eyes in movement. Then, the therapist takes care of keeping the ghee warm by replacing it constantly.
At Maa Yoga Ashram, we offer specialized therapies for patients suffering from a range of chronic ailments, such as obesity, heart problems, depression, blocked arteries, impotence, arthritis, and psychiatric issues. According to Ayurvedic principles, each person is unique, and their dietary requirements and practices should be customized accordingly. Moreover, good nutrition and proper digestion are considered essential for achieving and maintaining good health in Ayurveda. Therefore, both of these elements are emphasized in the Ayurvedic approach to treatment, recovery, and disease management.
Ayurvedic diet and nutrition have six primary "tastes" which form the basis for the Ayurveda practitioner's recommendations:
- Sweet: promotes strength and nourishes all dhatus.
- Sour: stimulates good digestion.
- Salty: maintains water electrolyte-balance.
- Pungent: improve digestion and nutrient absorption.
- Bitter: stimulates all other tastes.
- Astringent: aids in nutrient absorption.
Herbs and Herbal Medicine
Ayurvedic medicine is based on two fundamental theories: The Tridoshas and Herbal Energies. The latter classifies herbs based on their therapeutic and biochemical properties, as well as their energies, tastes, and the organs and channels affected. Each herb has therapeutic properties according to its energy and healing power.
As part of the Ayurvedic treatments, our Ayurveda practitioner determines the patient's diet and herbal remedies based on the properties or energy/quality of different herbs. These are determined based on the twenty attributes, which present themselves in ten pairs of opposites: slow/sharp, oily/dry, cold/hot, slimy/rough, dense/liquid, soft/hard, static/mobile, subtle/gross, cloudy/clear and heavy/light.
Herbs are further divided according to six tastes: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, and astringent. Everyone needs the six tastes in their daily diet; however, one of them usually predominates.
Finally, it is worth noting that prescribing Ayurvedic herbal remedies are a precise science. As such, it requires deep knowledge of plants and their effect on human physiology, biochemistry, and psychology. Consequently, these remedies must not be taken freely, nor should they be prescribed by anyone other than qualified practitioners.
