A 200-hour program consists of human physical anatomy and physiology, bodily systems, organs, and more. In addition, we teach energy anatomy and physiology, such as chakras and nadis, with full awareness and understanding that we are all energy beings.
The study of the subject and application of its principles to yoga practice, like benefits, contraindications, and healthy movement patterns, are an integral component of one’s teacher training experience. The postures, alignment and adjustment are very important in this program, as are the correct posture in asanas, the right breathing in pranayamas, kriyas, chanting, mantra, meditation, and other traditional yoga techniques. Every part of the curriculum is fundamental to the program. It is important to learn how to assist, correct, instruct and the different types of teaching styles. Some of the qualities of a teacher are to understand the student’s process of learning and business aspects of teaching yoga. But the process to get the Yoga Teacher Certification is different for every person. Most students typically complete a 200- hour teacher training course in 28 days. However, circumstances are different from one student to the next; and, may often derail the best laid attempts of the student to complete the course in the prescribed amount of time. For such a student, It could take more than an extra week or even months for the aspirant to complete the course. In either event, completion of the 200-hour teacher training course is a prerequisite to taking the advance programs.
In the advanced program, a Registered Yoga School (RYS) will prepare you to enter the blossoming yoga industry with the skills and confidence required to succeed. Like all 300-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Courses, the program is required to offer a curriculum based on the guidelines issued by the Yoga Alliance, USA. That is why many curriculums have an intense focus on deepening your practice on all levels. With this course you will show knowledge in the Basic Foundational Review learned from 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training. In addition, you will receive training in Advanced Teaching Methodology, Sequencing and Training, Meditation, Chanting: Voice Use and Tone Use, advanced Pranayama and Ayurveda. For Ayurveda, each RYS can teach differently about how to manage your practice and teaching. Advanced workshops in Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and Prenatal Yoga are included. Also included are Advanced Yoga Philosophy, and advanced Lifestyle and Ethics of Yoga Teachers.
For the Asanas, the next list names a few of the advanced postures, corrections and adjustments practices in the program of the 300-hours. A few of these asana are also in the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program, but part of practicing postures over again is that this is the best way to swim in depths of Yoga philosophy waters.
The program does not end here. The anatomy and physiology classes relate to the Yoga Asanas taught during your 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training Course. Also, a full review of Bhagavad Gita, advanced pre-natal adjustments, chakras, kriyas, Sanskrit use and understanding, bandhas and drishtis. This last one includes understanding the nine drishtis. Advanced assisting, adjusting, mudras and styles of Yoga are taught. This program dives deeper into the history of Yoga, provides fundamentals of creating Yoga Workshops and offers post-program mentorship.
Some schools follow the Yoga Alliance International (IYA) standards for 500-hour RYT designation , which requires the student to complete 200-hours and 300-hours of training before receiving the 500-hour certification.
Some RYS or Yoga Workshop make modules for these programs oriented to practitioners who have already completed a 300-hour program. Still other Registered Yoga Schools create intense programs which ensure the trainee knows the Five Categories of Asanas. They develop individual and specific modules for medicine, philosophy, history, asanas and classes to practice observation and experience, demonstrate knowledge of how to do the poses in each category, and/or hold workshops where students discuss their common foundation and how to build upon this foundation.
